Eazypod Media Covers

The Sculpted Layers Eazypod Media covers for the Evolution Aqua Eazypod were created out of a frustration loosing media to the inlet during the cleaning cycle.

They are designed to click into place preventing the media from raising above the divider between the inlet and media chambers, even when the water level exceeds it.

Design process

Covers for the media chamber are not a new idea, the first were the Eazypod Filter caps created out of 5mm Acrylic, by DevonKoi Pond, so full credit goes to them for the original cover idea.

I originally wanted to simply print a similar cover for personal use, however once I played about it printing samples and test fitting, it became clear that I could create a version that wouldn’t require modification/drilling of the Eazypod. I began selling them on eBay and was pleasantly surprised that there was some demand for this solution.

After test fitting, I realised if I placed the clip outboard of the cover, I could slide the cover under the overflow section of the pod. And the final form of the cover was born.

Final Design

Once I began selling the Eazypod media covers, I received a lot of positive feedback from the Koi keeping community with several YouTube review. I will list links and images below. The only constructive feedback the covers received was from YouTuber Daveykoi, it was around the top band having some movement. The force of the water and media during the cleaning cycle is not enough to push the bridge up, as seen in a video posted below, so if you have this design do not worry! But perception of the product is important to me, so I updated the design to incorporate a central bridge as per Dave’s suggestion.
